A 13-year old girl was bed-ridden for 6 months, going in and out of hospitals and clinics but each time her condition baffled the doctors, so they ended up giving a different diagnosis and medication. One doctor even told her she might have a psychological problem. Her condition didn’t improve and it got worse. Her eyes became sensitive to light, suffers from vertigo (sensation of spinning or whirling in her head) and shortness of breath.
Her mother couldn’t stand to see her daughter suffering so she did her own research on the internet. What she found out online was that her daughter could be suffering from Lyme Disease, believed to be caused by a bite from a tick, a tiny spider-like blood-sucking parasite which usually feeds off animals.
So she sought a professor in Newcastle privately and told her about her condition. True enough, she was diagnosed Lyme Disease and three core infections.
Google has released a gadget for the iGoogle personalised homepages that allows you to search within the spoken words of the US political candidates from any of the US politician channels on Youtube. As of now, we can only search againts the video title, description and meta tags.
However with this feature, you can search within the content of the speech within the video itself. Say for instance, you would like to know what Obama said about the petrol price, you search for it and the results will show you a list of videos. When you click on a video, a yellow marker will be shown on the video marker to indicate the time that words were mentioned. Cool.
Google said snippets “may not be 100% accurate” and speech-to-text technology “is a difficult problem that hasn’t yet been completely solved”.
Well, it’s cool anyways!
You can try this feature on this standalone page (without iGoogle).
If you have iGoogle, you can grab this gadget here.
