My own election “tsunami”
Okay I have to make this my last election-related blog post or I have to change the title of this blog ![]()
It’s braggy time for me.
During election results night, I was having a small party for my wife and together with the other family members, wait for the election results. I also prepared a laptop for those net-savvy to check online and I was wondering, which websites should I tell them to go to? I search under google and didn’t get any good pages. Most of them were talking about the election but not the “live results”. I figured out there must be a few who would search for the term “Malaysia election live results” and probably I could get some traffic (yes, I’m a traffic whore).
So I quickly posted an entry titled “Malaysia general election live results“, pinged PPS and continued partying.
Did it work? Well I was wrong about “a few” who would be searching for that term. There were thousands! Here’s a snapshot of my unique hits that weekend (observe Saturday)

Keep in mind I posted the entry at around 7.33pm. At midnight, my blog was #1 on Google’s search result for the keywords “malaysia election live results” and in the top 3 for other variations. Due to the alcohol in my head, I didn’t take any snapshot. Anyway, it was even higher than “The Star” and also SPR websites. On Sunday afternoon though I dropped to #8 but traffic was still higher than normal. Today I’m on the third page already ![]()
Here were the keywords to my blog :

My adsense earnings? It tripled on Saturday and doubled on Sunday. Heehee but Monday it was back to normal boohoo.
My point? Well obviously Google really like fresh content and emmm, sometimes it doesn’t take too much effort just to bring in the traffic (though this is just a short duration of time). This also means we can get some quick and temporary traffic by observing the local “hot” issues.
Okay no more election-related post, until something really interesting comes up hehe.

If you want to have a better future for our children in Malaysia, do you bit by signing the on-line petition at http://bersih.org.
Why do we need to reform the Election Commission?
1) the discrepancy between number of voters in urban and rural seats is too great. The smallest parliamentary seat (Federal Territory, Putrajaya) has only 6,608 voters while the parliamentary seat for Kapar in Selangor has 112,224 voters. What this means is that one vote in the Putrajaya parliamentary constituency is equivalent to 17 votes in the Kapar constituency.
2) A common tactic is to ‘buy’ the identity card of the voters. Party members will then vote on the voters’ behalf. Random checking of a person’s identity must be conducted using those finger print checking device. Any voting done on another person’s identity must be made a serious offence under the election law.
3) The rules on postal voting must be reviewed, tightened and amended. The current rule favours the ruling party as the armed forces personnel and policemen who vote by ‘postal voting’ would obviously not jeopardize their career or promotion prospect by voting for the opposition.

The problem is always the same: finding the time and energy to update the other blog (and perhaps more)…
