Malaysia general election - the day after
Staying up in church today was a struggle - like others, I slept at 3am to watch the BN humiliation as it unfolds. 5 states lost? Heh - that’s what you get if place so many sombong bodoh YBs in your line-up.
The buzzword in the Malaysian blogosphere now is “political tsunami” and I’m just disappointed that the winds of change completely passed us by. What happened to us dear Sabahans? We have no voice in the opposition now, only 2 ah? Christina Liew lost by a mere 174 votes, of which postal votes won it for Yee.
Watching the debate on TV1/TV3 election coverage last night was disgusting. Only BN wins were posted up, all the wins especially from Penang was announced only later. As usual, you get faster news from the web.
And whenever BN loses, all the panels said was “that place has a majority of non-malays”, that’s why BN lost.
Emm excuse me sir, this is 2008. People vote for the political ideology and they stayed away from the BN because of their failure to hear the people’s grouses. Personally, I voted for a chinese candidate yesterday and I’m not chinese. Surprising? No.
The tv news are also trying very hard to soften the blow so to speak. The news never mention BN losing the 5 states. Just that BN didn’t achieve 2/3 majority and then, highlighting that “democracy in this country works”. Emm yes, so does corruption, lets please move on.
Back to the local front. I was expecting the opposition to give a much stronger fight. Probably the angpow that was openly given out to the rakyat really made them returning the favour and voted BN. Talks of up to RM200 angpows being given out to individuals in the kampung is no news already.
BN Sabah should be grateful that the internet penetration in Sabah and especially the interior is not high. And they should be most grateful there’s no strong political blogger from Sabah. On the KK parliamentary seat, DAP (9,464 votes) won it and PKR (9,358 votes) even came second, pushing BN newcomer Chin Tek Ming (8,420 votes) to third place.
Anyway, these are just my personal opinion.

He won or lost? Oh, he lost. Well, the way he was campaigning was really funny, telling people to look at his face and how it doesn’t change. But I think that a face that doesn’t change can be very boring. Sometimes you must laugh, sometimes you must cry.
He was telling everybody “Ini muka tak bertukar, tak bertukar”. Who is interested in his ‘wajah’? If he was Britney Spears, then….

Actually Sabah & Sarawak will reap from being the ‘forts’ for BN and I do think the Feds(BN) will concerntrate on pumping ‘excess’ development funds(for the 5 ‘rebelious’ states + KL) in to these 2 BN forts and we, rebels have to source amongst ourselves or elsewhere for funding. Plus, BN will try to starve us and deny us, which in return will make us more determine and resourceful. One thing I know, being in an Opposition area my entire life, we’re always have been the most developed and progressive township becuase we do not rely on the Feds.
and Kelantan is a beautiful state even after BN has been starving them for decades. =)

I turned off the audio, just watched the TV and played some music. I was at a place with no net connection.
I go to the 5pm mass so staying up at church was no problem
The opposition could’ve won more seats in Sabah (parliament & DUN) only if the PKR and DAP avoided each other in some places eg, Kapayan and Inanam.
Sabah and Sarawak provided 50+ parliamentary seats to the BN. If us east malaysians (who some in semenanjung don’t recognise as malaysians) didnt provide our full support, the BN would’ve handed the reins of govt to Barisan Rakyat today.

I wonder what will happen to Selangor after this… Negeri Maju… Tempat Agong and so on…
