Miss Teen South Carolina Re-answers

miss south caroline on today show
Miss Teen South Carolina, 18-year old Lauren Caitlin Upton finally managed to give a good answer to the same question that she failed miserably on national television. Interviewed on NBC’s Today show, she answered

“I would love to re-answer that question,” the Miss Teen South Carolina said. “Well personally, my friends and I, we know exactly where the United States is on our map. I don’t know anyone else who doesn’t. And if the statistics are correct, I believe there should be more emphasis on geography.”

That was like a thousand times better than the on-stage answer. However, the damage has been done and thanks to the uncontrollable power of the internet, she is now being labelled as, please excuse my language, a dumb blonde.

Various spoofs of her answer has already been uploaded on youtube, such as this, where her so-called “parents” reacting to the answer here.

In-car Google Local Search

Google in partnership with BMW has announced an in-car google local search, where you can do a business or service location search using BMW’s in-car navigation system. The search result will then be shown through Google maps. This service has started in Germany.

Well - looks like those who wants to be a chauffeur, specifically driving a BMW, will need to know how to use the Google map search. I think this kind of service is really useful and a life-saving tool for ambulances and paramedics, in case they need to reach to a location like pronto. Of course, they need to install this on the ambulances and firetrucks.

Soon we’ll see warning signs on the road “No Googling while Driving”.

Origin of slang words

I’m sure you’ve used the words like idiot, moron or even cool but have you ever thought of the origin of these words? Listverse has lay down “10 Slang Words and Phrases Explained”.

Here’s a short summary on the word “idiot“.

Idiot originally comes from the Greek word Idiotes which was used to refer to a person who was a private individual - or more specifically, one who was so preoccupied with their own personal life that they would not take part in the democratic process. In the biblical sense, the word referred to an uneducated person. By the fourteenth century, it could also refer to a clown, a layman (non-religious), or an individual. Later, however, the Oxford English Dictionary gave it the following definition which has stuck: “A person so deficient in mental or intellectual faculty as to be incapable of ordinary acts of reasoning or rational conduct”. When IQ tests arrived, a person scoring less than 20 was regarded to have earned the “idiot’s score”.
