Bloggers careful
Our police force are actually ID-Ten-Ts. This is yet another incident involving a blogger in Malaysia.
In case you haven’t heard, this is related to the arrest of blogger Nathaniel Tan, who blogs at jelas.info and also an aide to former Malaysian deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim. He was detained for 4 days last week and was charged under the Official Secrets Act on allegations, according to his lawyer, that he had secret documents relating to corruption allegations against the country’s deputy internal security minister, Johari Baharom.
During his arrest, he wasn’t told why he was detained and not even allowed to call his family members or lawyer. By a stroke of luck, another lawyer recognised him as he was produced in court without any legal counsel. The other lawyer promptly contacted Nat’s lawyer.
What is so effing stupid about this whole thing was that the purported classified info was posted on his blog by an anonymous commenter. The police took away his laptop and desktop computer and haven’t returned them as of now.
Tan, who blogs under his own name, said he had later deleted a part of the anonymous comment as he felt it contained detailed allegations that could not be substantiated.
“The government and police appear to be sending a signal that while irresponsible bloggers roam free, responsible bloggers who moderate their comments and put a name to their writing are more likely to end up as targets,” Tan said.
“This policy could not possibly be more ill-informed and counter-productive,” he added.
So now you know. The comments on your blog are yours. Careful when you approve any comments, you don’t know when someone is posting some high official secrets that could land you in jail. If you just approve any comments, long before you know it you’d be doing some nude squats in the police station in their attempt to push out the heroine from your anus.
