Avril vs The Rubinoos
Avril Lavigne was recently hit by a lawsuit from The Rubinoos that claimed she stole their 70s song titled “I wanna be your boyfriend”. As you’ve guessed it, it’s Avril’s current chart-topping hit, “Girlfriend”.
I wanted to hear the 70s version myself and it’s available in, where else but youtube. You can listen to it after the jump (at the same time, you can see a slide show of various avril’s pictures as the music has no video of its own).
My 2 cents - well only the “chorus” part was similar and it’s more to the “hey hey” part. If you ask anyone else to make a song that contains a “hey hey” and then take out their music, compare them, they all would sound the same. I don’t think she stole it, she’s already an established singer and she doesn’t need to steal anyone’s song but hey, I’m no musicologist. Let’s see how the trial would go.
Anyway, my favourite version of Avril’s girlfriend is the one with Lil’ Mama rapping. You can watch it here.
