Famous Headless Shark

This sculpture of a shark heading into a house is rather huge, it is 25 feet long and weighs 203 kilograms. I think those with Selachophobia (fear of sharks) will want to avoid living in this neighbourhood. The sculpture of the shark has no head and has been there since 1986 in, fittingly enough, Headington, Oxford, England. Get it? Head-ington? ![]()
What is the purpose behind it? According to the house owner
The shark was to express someone feeling totally impotent and ripping a hole in their roof out of a sense of impotence and anger and desperation…. It is saying something about CND, nuclear power, Chernobyl and Nagasaki.”
