You’ve probably known this by now. Becks is heading for Major League Soccer (MLS) and will receive a cool one million per week for the next five years. For the uninitiated, you might be wondering why the MLS wants to pay him that much?
Well it’s what he can bring to the game - popularity, glamour and exciting football (if he still has it).
Waww… imagine if I can earn that much. I will not be able to sleep just to think what I can buy tomorrow!
Here’s what the MLS is saying about him
“David transcends the sport and is a cultural icon. David is clearly one of the most recognisable athletes in the world. People are going to feel really good about David Beckham spending the rest of his career in the U.S.”
In the US, contract negotiations are being held by the organiser of the league, MLS and not the individual club.
The soccer game in the USA is still not gaining as much popularity as the big three, baseball, basketball and football (american football). They are hoping with Beckham playing in their league, more attention and respect will be given by the other leagues and the media will report matches and development from there more.
Well - he’s only 31, if it doesn’t work out, he can always go to the middle-east and earn more like other retired footballers.

RM16 million per month? RM1 billion at the age of 36? For playing football, that’s obscene.
