Simple Adsense Tip
I’ve promised this tip sometime ago and since I will be on leave for 3 days starting from tomorrow til Thursday (have to find contractors for our new house), I’ll post this tip up before it goes stale.
And yes.. I won’t be updating this blog til Friday.
Okay before we jumped into the detail, I have to disappoint maybe most of you. My tip involves using a wp plugin. So if you are using a free blog hosting services, you cannot really implement this.
Another thing, what works for me might not work for you but I would love to hear feedbacks from anyone on your results if you decide to try this out.
So what worked for me on this blog? You need to know that my “sweet spot” is the adsense ads right before the start of the post on individual page (that is when you click on the post title or “read more” link to read the full post). Second will be the link units at the top of the page.
In WordPress, you can show only a portion of your post on the main page and when the readers want to read the full post, they will click on the link “Read the rest of this entry” and will be taken to a page showing the full post.

By default, the page will jump to the point where it was stopped because the page will still show the full article. So what I did was using the adsense-deluxe to place my adsense bar at that break point.
However, based on my own personal experience browsing other sites, when I get to that single page, I will still scroll up just to make sure I am on the right paragraph to continue my reading.
Besides I was getting lazy placing the adsense-deluxe code in the middle of the post.
Then I found the Less plugin by Bennett McElwee. It is exactly what I wanted, it will disable the link from jumping to the middle of the post (where you “broke” it).
Instead it will open just like a normal page, showing the header and the top of the post. At first I didn’t expect much but the CTR on both of my header and the square right after the post title jumped.
I think while the readers were expecting the remainder of the post to come up, they will accidentally read the ads instead and of course, some of the ads are interesting to them. So they click. I smiled.
I hope you find this information useful. Please let me know if it helped increase your adsense earnings.

does that mean if you use the less plugin, you dont need adsense-deluxe anymore?
it seems that due to the template/theme that i use, i dont need the less plugin: it will go straight to the top.

oh yeah. i forgot about that part. what i did is i hardcoded my adsense into the single.php file so it will always appear right after my post title.

Thanks for the LESS, I’ve also been wanting for quite some time.
As for the adsense-deluxe, if you are reading JohnChow’s blog, you should know that his middle post Ad make the most. I’ve started uzing but yet to have any stat out yet… hehe.

And I also find that ‘Most popular Posts’ plugin pretty useful. As I always looking for other people’s ‘Most Popular’.

Alamak, I can’t seem to make my post to show partially. Most probably my theme issue barangkali ah?
