Why Goalies Hate the New World Cup Soccer Ball
German’s fourth goal has been attributed to the new ball design, which swerves at the last moment, moved away from the goalie and into goal. So the less the seams are on the ball, the more the Magnus force will be applied to the ball.
The new Adidas Teamgeist football, as it is called, has 14 panels instead of the 26 or 32 that traditionally create the hexagonal pattern.
Complex whirls of air cause a spinning ball to drift toward the side that’s spinning away from the ball’s direction of movement. A ball that’s not spinning can bounce around unpredictably.

It’s pointless if the ball is designed to swerve and a player can hit it properly. It’s also was down to the player dude.
Else, any Tom, Dick and Harry of England would’ve scored…hahaha!
