Kaamatan 2006 Pics
During the holidays earlier this week I brought my family to enjoy a package named “Kaamatan escape” in Nexus Karambunai (we enjoyed the time so much we extended to another night). But when we were back we knew we couldn’t escape Kaamatan entirely so on the 31st of May, we stroll around the booths on a hot afternoon.
Here are some pics I took.

If I am not mistaken, this one is from Papar.

Warriors from the Sabahan clan (lyrics from Atama’s song this)

Not sure from which tribe (ya i know - i make a lousy guide)

If this were darker you’d think they were clubbing and jumping around to House of Pain’s classic rap song “Jump around”. Well actually they are jumping on a separate piece of floor. One of Sabah’s many tribes use this in their dance, where they will attempt to grab a prize dangling from the ceiling but when this pic was taken, the public is taking the opportunity to try out the floor and see how high they could jump.

This is the foundation of the floor above.

Mr Lonely wondering where he is and how to get home. It’s a norm seeing people high on booze during Kaamatan festival that it’s not funny anymore.

Colourful handicrafts being sold while the sellers are resting.

More items being sold. Colourful scarfs.

My wife and son Jordan with aunties in their traditional costumes. Jordan is trying not to make any sudden move for fear of being kidnapped. See the bronze on their wrists? They can make a grown man running for his mommy if they hit you with that.
Well that’s it from my old digital camera. For more pics and info on Kaamatan, check out my ex-colleague’s site at mysabah.com.
To see many more from my camera, check out Kaamatan group set at Flickr. If you have pictures on Kaamatan on flickr, you may add to the group.
