Lunch at the @mosphere

Last Saturday, my wife and me celebrated Valentine at the @mosphere restaurant during lunch. Well actually we wanted to check out KK’s latest high-profile restaurant and so a belated Valentine dine was a good reason. Besides, all those bloated valentine prices has gone down.

So, for those not “in the know”, the @mosphere restaurant is a revolving restaurant located on the 18th floor of Menara Tun Mustapha (formerly known as Yayasan Sabah). Some of you might not know this (like my wife), actually the revolving restaurant was already in place when the building was opened but closed a few years later.

I asked my dad why it was closed back then, he said they found some cracks. Well not sure how true about that but I read they spent RM1 million to renovate the place and hopefully, they fixed those cracks (can ask Samy Vellu to verify hehe).

Anyway, there’s a valet parking service so if you don’t want to walk up the stairs, you can drive up to the base of the building and let the valet take over your car and park it. When I saw the notice board about the service, the first thing that came to my mind the face of an intimidating illegal immigrant working part time there trying to steal my cheap driving slippers and ambir pure perfume, so I parked the car myself and we walked.

On the groundfloor of the building, a nice kadazan guy greeted us and told us about the available valet service, saying we can avoid walking under the hot sun. I pretended I didn’t know hehe.

He directed us which lift to take and the floor to go to (which is 18, my favourite number).

When the lift opened, woahhh, magic! A brightly coloured place with avant-garde design (I just learned this word over the internet) surprised us even when we haven’t walked out of the elevators. I’ll be honest with you. The first thing that came to my mind was Austin Powers (maybe that’s why they had Austin Powers as their show in their first week of operation). Well at least the waiters didn’t look like Austin “Danger” Powers hehe (u know, with those big yellow teeth and large glasses).

The surrounding floors were moving clockwise and I got a little bit worried as I have a history of motion sickness. As I’ve never been to other revolving restaurant before, I didn’t expect the floors to move that fast, I thought it will not be noticeable.

We’ve booked earlier so we were ushered to our place, which is near the glass panel a.k.a. walls.

The choice of food is not that many though. I noticed there’s only 1 style of chicken serving, which is the stuffed chicken (either that or I was reading the menu quickly so as not to get myself dizzy). So I ordered the chicken as you can never go wrong with chicken (unless the cook is really bad).

Our view when first seated.

The price for the chicken was RM39 while the Fish & Chips ordered by my wife was RM34, standard price (if not cheaper) for a classy and modern restaurant like this.

Wisma Innoprise - where the CM’s office is now located.

While waiting for the food, we helped ourselves to the buns. What do you call that ah? Ni lah kalau orang kampung pegi makan classy ni. I think it’s the “eat to keep you busy while you wait” food.

Emmm nice.

Not nice anymore after my cutting

Then after 15 minutes or so, the food arrived.

nice stuffed chicken
Wow. Nice layout… errr i mean presentation.

See how many slices of fish she has on that plate!

At least, the food was great. I totally forgot about my attempt not to get dizzy by looking at the scenic view cuz for the next 20 minutes I only enjoyed the scenic view of my plate getting empty.

View after 30 minutes - that’s the Likas Bay - if you squint your eyes you can see my office.

View after 45 minutes.

Actually that’s a room for a small group, hard to see with the reflection.

Then, after our finishing our food, my wife went to the washroom and told me to take pictures of the gents.

So, here ya go.

Check out those glass sink. Can you see me in the mirror?

Okay my wife didn’t ask me to take this one but since I’m there…

Unfortunately, we had to leave right after our main course and have to waive the dessert because we had to fetch Jordan from the nursery. My wife signed up for the free membership and we received 20% discount on the spot. That’s RM18 off. Cool.

So we left fully satisfied. Good view. Good food. Nice @tmosphere (I should be getting 50% discount for this blog entry).

I was glad I managed to finish the food and didn’t get dizzy then. Different story when I reached home.

I got so dizzy I slept for like 4 hours straight. I remember the assistant manager who was entertaining us that the restaurant was among the fastest in the world.

Oooookay. Maybe the other restaurant is slower cuz their research shows even a little bit faster will make people dizzy *hint hint*.

My wife was ok but the effect only got to her that night when she washed her hair. Needless to say she slept early.

But I don’t mind going there again but I will be better prepared, by swallowing up my travel sickness pills before dining. I want to try out the dessert ice cream emmm.

Okay hope you enjoy my restaurant review attempt. If you manage to visit the place, let me know what you think and if you get dizzy.
