almost a month ago, i added the category for ‘freewares’ and i publicly declared that i love them (though not as excited as my twin, tom cruise declaring his love to katie) and yet, i didn’t post anything in that category.

well now i will! i want to introduce you to - jalbum! this is a fine piece of software that generate html-based albums for your pictures. the album can then be burned into a cd or published on a website.

why the name jalbum? don’t know. maybe the author’s starts with J - u know lah people who’s name start with J, always think their name is special one… *wink*.

anyhoo - i remember last year, an association came to my office and wanted to sell CDs that contain a collection of pictures. they want to know if i can write a software that allows people to view the pictures easily, being independent from the PC’s OS and not having to install any software on their PC.

i said “ohhh.. it’s hard oh but can one”.

so i gave them a quotation of a few hundred ringgit and i said it will take a week to do (so macam susah la kunun). they signed it and passed me around 30+ pictures.

i called my intern and asked him to download jalbum, create an album with the pics, burn it into a CD and put the autostart on it. everything done on that same day. i called the client on the 5th day and told him we managed to do it early and asked him to collect.

the html-based album solved the problem. every OS has a browser so anyone with a PC can view it. i could have charged thousands tapi kesian jugalah mo tipu orang siang-siang. well - i’ve just given out a tip on making money fast.
