Not sure if this would improve anyone’s memory on chemistry but for me at least I didn’t sleep through the video.
To many in Penampang, the Servay hypermarket was a lifesaver and a strategic shopping place. Low price and a variety of items, you can do a whole month of shopping under 1 roof. Yesterday, on the magical date of 20.08.2008, the building was taken down by an inferno that started from the first floor. I was at home when I received an MMS showing the top part of the building on fire. I didn’t know it would be so bad that the whole building would be gone by morning.
Here’s an eyewitness account from a shopper name Stanley Christian, who’s email was forwarded to me:
I was inside the building and trying to buy some goods and all the suddent the fire alarm on alert and there were an announcement saying the building on fire. So people are running to get out from the building and for God sake, someone shouting at us to run faster and darn, we have to run like a sprinter getting out from the building.
Here’s some picture taken (sorry for the low quality and visibility..), using my cheap mobile phone..(ke..ke..)…i forgot my camera which i left it in my bag at home.
But the feeling is there watching all the things inside burned, without anything survived (except the person selling mobile phone where she managed to get her phones into a plastic bag and run out from the building). The fire started on the roof at the back of the building. Caused? unknown..let the authorities determine the source.
According to the news report, the fire started from the first floor store room. If I was there and was queueing to pay, I’d run out with my shopping cart, straight to my car but of course, that would be greedy and selfish since there would be helter skelter and I don’t think I can push any carts through.
I just feel lucky my heavily pregnant wife and me weren’t there last night.
Videos and pictures after the jump.
My visitors log for Friday and Saturday last week.

Thousands of visitors stumbled upon the smiling animals post - unfortunately it was only for a day. Easy come easy go. Sadly adsense earnings didn’t follow the same chart.
It pays to check your email every hour! Hahaha. A few days ago when Nuffnang sent out an email outlining that they are looking for bloggers for a top secret mission codenamed “Project Trafford“, I quickly replied to offer myself for this project even though I had no idea what I have to do. But come on! I’m a Manchester United fan. Any of these words would set off my alarm - Manchester, United, Trafford. So with the name ‘Trafford’ on the heading, I had a hunch that it would have to do something with the team.
The next day I was ecstatic when I found out that I was one of the short listed bloggers for the project and that I had to reply the email before 2pm (the main requirements was to be quick on the email response). I was reading that email at 1.25pm, right after I returned from my lunch. You should’ve seen the speed which I clicked the “reply” button! Even superman can’t beat me to it.
So I made it to the list and the project was finally revealed. I am grouped together with 5 other bloggers with one of them being our great and fearsome leader (my attempt to scare the wits out of the other participating bloggers hehe).
Our mission is to come up with a strategy to win the ‘Mr Potato’ contest - have you heard about it? If you’re a Manchester Utd fan I would say take out all of your money savings and buy your nearest supermarket that sells this crunchy snacks. Of course if the supermarket costs more than RM15,000 then you think twice lah since that is how much the grand prize is worth. So you might want to target sundry shops.
Sorry this is 2 days’ late - but hey, at this time of writing, it is still less than 48 hours since we ushered the new year, in fact, I still can smell the fireworks burned since that midnight. The smell is so strong it seems like it’s coming from the house next door. Eh wait - it’s my neighbour burning the grass… oh well.. HAPPY NEW YEAR 2008!!

Picture above is a picture taken over Oslo, Norway at the stroke of midnight.
In Norway there’s no tradition for fireworks arranged by the city. It’s too cold in January to gather downtown for the celebrations, so everyone just go out into their gardens or a nearby open spot, launch their rockets and then head back inside. The result is a view like this, with fireworks shooting up from absolutely everywhere at midnight on January 1.
