Google has released a gadget for the iGoogle personalised homepages that allows you to search within the spoken words of the US political candidates from any of the US politician channels on Youtube. As of now, we can only search againts the video title, description and meta tags.

speech to text technology google for igoogle gadgetHowever with this feature, you can search within the content of the speech within the video itself. Say for instance, you would like to know what Obama said about the petrol price, you search for it and the results will show you a list of videos. When you click on a video, a yellow marker will be shown on the video marker to indicate the time that words were mentioned. Cool.

Google said snippets “may not be 100% accurate” and speech-to-text technology “is a difficult problem that hasn’t yet been completely solved”.

Well, it’s cool anyways!

You can try this feature on this standalone page (without iGoogle).

If you have iGoogle, you can grab this gadget here.
