Well I only managed to catch 75% of the live debate last night, the rest of the time I had to keep my son company who was playing the online Disney games. Here are my thoughts on it, however these are biased since I no longer have the confidence in our current government so these are weighted more to Anwar’s side.
Before it started, I told myself to keep an open mind and try to listen to both parties. So Anwar started off first, stating his claim that he can bring the price down 50 cent per litre. Okay good.
Then Shabery’s turn for the opening statement - and what did he say? Anwar suka mengambil kesempatan dalam kesempitan rakyat (Anwar likes to take advantage of the people’s plight). What the hell? He went into personal attacking mode right on the first round! Well that threw my “neutrality” away and I was cheering Anwar on all through-out the night.
He says taking advantage of the people’s plight? If someone is selling an overpriced food to the people then I would call that taking advantage, highlighting the people’s main problem is not.
Some of the points which I can remember from last night:
The planted audience shouting “ya betul!!” everytime Shabery seemed to make a point kinda spoil the party a bit. At the end of it, Datuk Anwar went over to Shabery’s side to shake hands with him. Shabery look a little bit confused haha.
Anyway, after the debate, the only mental image that was captured in my mind was this:

HAHAHA… yucks! Anyone noticed he was foaming at the mouth, I was like refraining myself from using the tissue and wipe my tv screen. (I know this is personal but if he can do a personal jab, then I would like to do it too.)
Anyway read more about the debate on the following links:

Anwar just edges past Shabery
Watch the videos of the debate on youtube:
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8, Ending Argument
In all, I say Anwar was the winner. What about you? Who do you think won?

Tu yang orang selau kata… Berbuih mulut aku nasihat kat kau…
Yeah Shaberry seems to go astray all the time… Anwar also have some astray moment especially went being attack on personel ground..
overall it is a “good” debate…
Anyway, it is just something political… Will the oil price come down ?? I dont think so… Will Anwar become a PM… I also doubt it..
Only if the Government could listen and follow Anwar suggestions….

IMO, even the price is not dropped yet. Anwar is the winner. At least he managed to get the public supports and Shabery’s fame got dropped because of the point he given out and the way he talked. Can government at least try to think from our side and tell us some valid reason to have such high petrol price?

I was watching the debate when my father arrived from shopping with my mother. He joined me and making a statement that will etch in my mind forever. He said ” Umno BN sudah lari dari dia orang punya wawasan. Saya mau kerajaan kasi turun harga minyak walaupun 50 sen sana dari harga sekarang. Kerajaan sekarang teruk, mau beli beras pun berebut. Ini bukan kasi senang orang, semua pun mau ambil untung dari rakyat masuk poket dia orang. Dia orang mana tahu apa rakyat rasa. Ada driver sendiri, kerja duduk office aircond, pigi luar negeri tidak payah beli tikit (sponsored lah), even beli barang pun mungkin claim sama goverment. Gaji bulat-bulat masuk saving atau pun untuk hanky panky.”

one significant thing coming out form this debate is not the oil issue but the change of political stages in malaysia. debate among politician pro government and opposition never been ever think in malaysia because of the cocky and snobbish of the BN since independent.
thanks to the wide publicity of US Presidential Election, it become a general reference to shape up our political scenario in Malaysia. WE malaysian always want to copy. from Obama CHANGE, we got DAP CHANGE. Morgan Tsvangirai went to the dutch embassy to hide, Anwar went to Egypt embassy to hide. Clinton sex scandal Monica Lewinsky, we got Anwar sex scandal with Sukma and etc. Nevertheless, i believe the future going to be well if we copy from the American rather copy other country like Russia, China or Middle East.
so, what really come out from the debate is our Minister of Information Shabery badly needed an image consultant. he should really watch back the debate recording and make sure his foaming mouth not making more impression rather than his speech point. I believe Shabery deserved our respect because he got the balls to do debate and be the punching bag with the mighty Anwar who is a professional in speech and rallies.

Yeah I think Anwar won. What difference does it make. Even if Anwar were to draft a complete 1000+ page document on how it is possible to reduce petrol price, the Government wont admit its possible.
I’m not pro Anwar, or pro Pak Lah or pro any other leader in the country for that matter. But when Shabery is praised for that kind of performance (he was in another dimesion altogether, he didnt even know what he was being asked!), makes me sick to the bones. And they call that a Presidential debate? I’ve seen high school students talk with more sense than he did in debates. Im not a big fan of Anwar because I think hes too disturbingly cunning, but at least his talk made sense.
Well, what the hell do I know anyway. Im just another guy with an opinion.
