In an embarassing mistake that can be considered amateurish, ESPN Asia’s weekly broadcast “Sportscenter Asia” displayed a parodied logo of FAM (Football Association of Malaysia) instead of the official version last Wednesday. The logo was displayed during a live telephone call to FAM secretary-general Datuk Azzuddin Ahmad.

This was the logo that was shown.
espn logo howler
Notice the sad looking tiger with one of the back leg bandaged. Even the name was not spared, it was changed from “Bolasepak” (Football) to “Kenasepak” (Kicked at).

As reported by Utusan, it could be the staff at Sportscenter Asia was looking for a logo and searched for it through Google Images since FAM website is still under construction (yes, to think that the league is still on-going, their website has been constructed for months).

I tried the search for FAM logo myself and only found this small logo while the large but fake logo can be found on 2 websites (and they’re bigger too).

FAM Logo

ESPN Singapore office has since apologized to FAM over the incident but personally, I think this serve FAM just right since they don’t seem to care about providing league information through their website. Heh you try to find league results at 11pm - your best source would be Asia-based the betting sites.

And with Malaysia’s world ranking lower than countries ravaged with war, FAM can seriously consider using this as their official logo.

Now if only someone managed to record the show and post it up at youtube, it would make this blog entry perfect.
