A bunch of climbers eager to climb to the summit of Everest left a lone climber going down dying because he had no oxygen.
Mount Everest pioneer Sir Edmund Hillary said Wednesday he was shocked that dozens of climbers left a British mountaineer to die during their own attempts on the world’s tallest peak.
Hmmm well they were all 1,000 feet away from the summit. I guess nobody can stop their quest after years of preparation right? Besides, if you have no oxygen on top of the world then that means you didn’t plan for it properly. Probably some of them are Malaysians, already practising reciting their name with the Datukship title in front of their names heh.

Please don’t overgeneralise or label ppl too quickly!
IF you read the story carefully; u’d realise that the situation was not that simple. That person was on the verge of death and there’s probably not much that could be done for him. Where they were, everyone is probably at their limits of exhaustion and probably not capable of thinking clearly. I would like to think that ppl including climbers are generally not that heartless. It’s sad that this had happened and we do not fully understand the whole story. So pls do not oversimplify and condemn so easily. My 2 cents worth.

well yeah. my title says a different thing but if you read my comment i was more of like.. giving reasons why the climbers did not help the guy. just like in an airplane, in times of emergency and the oxygen masks are pulled out, you put it over your own face first before helping others right? so if there’s not enough, then wat to do.. hehe.

I recall an interesting documentary about a group of Mount Everest climbers. Some of them had to leave their dying friends up there to die during a very severe weather condition. This was because they didn’t have enough oxygen bottle nor the energy tho carry down the dying members.
They themselves were dying so nothing much they could do. I guess every climbers have this at the back of their mind,i.e the possibility of being left alone when the situation becomes hopeless.
