My friend mrhenri, just passed me this URL, of Kalimullah Hassan from New Straits Times writing an article on our beloved land Sabah.
He started with these words
Whenever I feel the discrimination and the prejudices being cranked up, I escape to Sabah for a few days.
This was said by an expatriate, married to a Malaysian, who works in the peninsula. When I was told what he said, it made me sad in a way I have seldom felt.
How true! I dread the days when I was studying there. Some of the west malaysians look down on Sabahans because they didn’t know much about us and sadly, it is still happening. They think we are still running around under our treehouses while scratching our buttocks because our pants made up of leaves. Yeaahh right.
But I think we are saying the same thing here. Whenever there’s a dangerous driver on the road, people would say he’s from KL hehe.
Anyway, the article is a good read and makes me feel proud to be a Sabahan.

reminds me when i started kolej in shah alam long time ago. i know the college mate meant well. trying to be friendly, she asked: “welcome to malaysia. how do you find malaysia?”
sometimes orang sana lupa malaysia includes sabah and sarawak; sometimes orang sabah lupa sabah is not a country. :)
