Counting down to my son’s 2nd year birthday, I want to share this story when Jordan was nearly involved in a bizzarre accident which could have him injured very seriously.

It happened on a Sunday, dated 16th of May 2004. Me and my wife, Jocelyn just returned home after attending the Sunday morning mass at the church.

We placed Jordan in his brand new baby walker while Jocelyn went to prepare the water to give Jordan a bath. I switched on the TV, put on the cartoon channel and placed Jordan right in front of the TV. Since it was around 11am and it was a hot afternoon, Jordan was placed right underneath our ceiling fan. Seeing him glued to the TV, I took the chance to get our clothes on the hanger.

Suddenly, there was a LOUD thump sound. Then I heard Jo exclaimed “what was that???!!!”. I ran to the living room and at the same time saw Jo coming out of the room. Jordan laughed becase both of us came out suddenly and he thought we were playing.

I saw the TV went dead. The electric went out. Then suddenly Jo shouted “TU KIPASSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!”.. I looked up and there was our fan.. spinning and hanging to the ceiling supported only by a bunch of wires, swerving here and there caused by the imbalance. We knew it was about to fall anytime with Jordan right underneath it!

Jo promptly grabbed and pulled Jordan away while I went under the fan, trying to catch it to save our coffee table made of glass.

And sure enough, the fan fell around seconds later and eventhough I couldn’t catch it, I managed to re-direct its direction away from our table and from where Jocelyn and Jordan were. My bleeding finger was the only casualty.

Jo then took Jordan and hugged him really tight…. With tears flowing down and saying “THANK GOD! THANK GOD!”. I went and hugged them too and kissed Jordan. He was all smiling and laughing, didn’t know what happened.

After we felt composed - I grabbed my digicam and took some pictures.

This is a picture of the fan I took in 2003. Its name is “UFO Fan” - when the lights is switched on in the middle, it does look like a UFO.

How the UFO fan looked like after the main motor and the wings fell.

This thing is heavy!

See that red and white wires? That was the only thing that delayed its downfall for a few seconds…

I checked the screws and the hooks that was supposed to hold the fan. Everything were in place. I have no idea how it came lose. The only logical explanation is, the hook was never in place… but if that’s the case, why did it take 3 years to fall?

People asked me to contact the company that fixed the fan and sue them. I don’t know… I’m sure they will say the same thing… why 3 years to fall?

Anyway, thank God for protecting our son. I thank the angels that had held up their arms and prevented the fan from falling on top of Jordan.

This is Jordan’s pic 2 days after the incident.. cute kan?
